Today's the day we roll out Hawaii's interactive 5pm newscast. And, my morning really encapsulates why it's a natural evolution. I was at the gym on the elliptical machine. The ones that have a TV set on them. I even had a magazine I was going to check out, but instead, I took a twitpic and sent out a tweet on my iphone. Next thing I know, 40 minutes had gone by. I was going back and forth with twitter followers the whole time. Made my workout fly by!
Then, I thought I'd take advantage of the open floor upstairs to practice my Rumba for the upcoming Hawaii Ballroom Dancing Association event. So, I simply played the song on my iphone and ran through the dance several times. Isn't interactivity wonderful?!?!
To cap it off, I ran into morning radio personality Crystal Akana before I left. Instead of exchanging phone numbers, she asked me if I was on Facebook or twitter. (Yes and yes) It's a new day. Social media is taking over and I'm happy to be a small part of it.
I hope you embrace it too and follow i9News on twitter so we can have a relevant dialogue about the news of the day or anything else you want to chat about. That's the true motivation behind "Tannya's twitter challenge." Not an ego thing to have the most followers at all. (Although I still strive to claim the Twitter Queen crown. :-) ) I just want to engage more viewers in our news. After all, isn't that interactivity at its best?
